How to Cook Tofu

After doing our last Grocery Store tour it came to mind that most people have never cooked tofu, which means it is not being implemented into their meals. Tofu has been called the perfect food and is worthy of this title. It is high in protein, low in saturated fats and a good source of calcium as well as vitamin E. It is also cholesterol free. Being raised on tofu, I know people’s reaction and it’s usually not a good one. Well fear no more! I’m going to show you an easy way to prepare tofu.

There are two main kinds of tofu, silken or soft tofu, and firm or regular tofu. If you are shopping at publix, you want to choose from tofu found in the produce section. For this easy tofu preparation, I like to use the firm cubed tofu. Since it’s already cubed, all you have to do it drain it. Tofu will take on the flavor of whatever it’s cooked with. Check out how easy this is:

Preheat your skillet (You can add 1Tbsp. EVOO)

-Empty the drained tofu into pan
-Add 1-2 Tbsp. Bragg Liquid Aminos (Found in the organic section or health food store, Bragg is an all natural seasoning from soy protein- so it’s loaded w/protein and low in sodium)
I also like to add sesame seeds
-You’re going to cook this just like you would cook any meat flipping and browning with a spatula.

*I like mine browned and slightly crispy

About 10 minutes later your tofu should be done!
You can add your tofu into a stir fry, on top of rice, whole-wheat pasta, in a wrap, or enjoy with vegetables.
This is just one simple method. There are many recipes and techniques to prepare & incorporate tofu.
It’s just that easy! So don’t be afraid! Put tofu on your grocery list and make it today!

Julia
