Are you drinking this?

By August 12, 2011November 23rd, 2022Blog

Hey! Julia here! Hope your having a great week! I wanted to share with you a funny & informative story…

At Tuesday night’s Accelerated Results Small Group Training I confiscated a Gatorade from one of our clients- We will keep his name anonymous for protection lol. Don’t worry it will go in my donation canned food pile. If you have not been on one of our monthly Grocery Store Tours you’re probably thinking I’m crazy.

On our tour we go over reading labels, how to check for chemicals found in ingredients, specific tips when shopping and includes a seven page handout which consists of a grocery shopping list (with my top picks), portion control chart, recipes and more!

It seems like Gatorade would be a healthy drink. After all, they cater to athletes & show a lot of sweat & fit people in their commercials. Not to mention Gatorade is the most popular sports drink!

I always give a disclaimer with this product & here is why…

There are 4 servings per container (this one happens to be 8 oz.)  Here are the stats per serving:

Calories 50, Sodium 110, Carbohydrate 14, Sugars 14

Sounds OK right? Well this is where most labels get ya… If you drink the 8 oz which is a pretty normal serving here is what you’re getting:

Calories 200, Sodium 440, Carbs 56, Sugars 56

Now I have seen much worse labels however, the reason I’m sharing this with you today is because Gatorade comes across as being a healthy drink. Even if your goal is not weight loss 56 grams of sugar per serving is more than your daily recommended allowance (40 grams).

Daily recommend sodium intake is 1500 ML. Ultimately drinking this will keep you from reaching your fitness goals and can affect your health.

In addition, some of the ingredients include yellow 5 YUCK!

I’m not saying to never drink Gatorade. Well I kinda am 😉 If you want to improve your health, lose weight, tone up or maintain your physique, drinking Gatorade will keep prohibit you from these things. 56 G of sugar is like eating a bowl of ice cream & candy!

So ignore the marketing hype and stick to good ol’ water for your hydration needs. It worked for cavemen.

And people–you know who you are–drinking Gatorade won’t give you a body like Tiger or Mike. Regular exercise and a healthy diet will 😉

To Your Success,

Julia

How about recommending an alternative to the gatoraide.

    • Plain old water is absolutely the best thing to hydrated. – In fact drinks with high levels of sugar and corn syrup are actually dehydrating, as are diet sodas, coffee and tea.

If you like a sweet taste you can do 3 parts water and one part of your favorite fruit juice (no fruit drinks) to give a little sweetness without all the sugars.

“Fizzy water” like a Perrier is also refreshing with a little fruit juice and ice.

    • HAAAAAAAA!!!! LOL! You are the BEST Scott we love ya!!!!
